How we work
Theory only — the water is for schools
Kiviento issues no certifications and is affiliated with no certifying body. For practical training, go to a certified school: US Sailing, ASA or an equivalent where you sail. We'll help you choose one and arrive prepared.
Nothing here makes a boat or a passage safe. Seaworthiness, weather calls and the safety of everyone aboard are the skipper's responsibility, and a coach at a desk hundreds of miles away cannot share it.

The questions we get most
Will I get a certification?
Not from us — we're not a certifying body. We prepare you so that in-person courses and exams go much more smoothly, and we'll tell you which certification your plans actually require.
Is online sailing coaching useful at all?
For theory, navigation, weather and planning, very. For helming and handling, no substitute exists for being on a boat, and we say so plainly.
I don't own a boat.
Most of our clients don't. The chartering and crewing program is specifically about getting on the water without owning anything.
Can you plan my passage for me?
We'll review and pick apart your plan, which teaches far more. The decisions and the responsibility stay with the skipper — that's not a formality.
I panic when docking.
Very common, and it usually comes from not understanding how the boat pivots or where prop walk pushes the stern. That's exactly what the handling program addresses.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. No contract, no minimum term. Access stays open until the end of the month you already paid for.
